The Gozio family

In Franciacorta, in the province of Brescia, the distillation of grape marc for the production of grappa is a traditional activity dating back through the centuries. This is the area in which the Gozio family, owners of the Distillerie Franciacorta, also operates.  

Theirs was the decision to restructure the Borgo Antico San Vitale, set up the Forum Aquavitae and endow it with a scientific committee.

The Gozio family business was begun by the founder, Luigi, in 1901 at Gussago, in Franciacorta. In the Forties of last century, the Distillerie Franciacorta began distilling grape marc to make grappa. At the same time, it began producing food-grade alcohol for making spirits.

Today, the firm is run by the founder’s heirs: Giuliano, Antonio and Luigi Gozio. Its grappa production exceeds 8% of total Italian production and accounts for 2% in the Horeca channel, making it the leading brand among Italian producers.

Distillerie Franciacorta, with a yearly turnover of around 32 million euro, avails itself of a network of about 150 employees and external collaborators and also does business abroad, exporting throughout Europe, to Russia, the United States and Canada, South America, Australia, China and Japan.

The company’s range of products comprises single-variety grappa, blends of young and aged grappas, and liqueurs. Also owned by Distillerie Franciacorta are two historical brand names such as Grappa Piave and Brandy René Briand.
